Two ragpickers found dead near Kumbakonam; cops suspect the duo had consumed liquor mixed with sanitizer

THANJAVUR: Two ragpickers were found dead under mysterious circumstances at Sakkaraipadithurai in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu on Friday. Police suspect the duo had consumed liquor mixed with sanitizer.
The deceased have been identified as M Balaguru, 50, of Perumandi and his friend T Soundrarajan, 40 of Karnakollai. The duo were married but they separated from their wives.
A passerby found the two men dead near Sakkaraipadithurai and alerted the Kumbakonam East police.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the two men consuming liquor on Thursday night. A man known to them found a container filled with sanitizer with them and asked them about it. They did not respond to the man properly and chased him away.
“We suspect that they might have consumed liquor mixed with sanitizer. The real cause of death can be ascertained after postmortem,” Kumbakonam East police inspector Raja said.
